Boyfriend had leasing company remove his name from apartment lease. Can they legally do this?
My boyfriend and I split up and we are both on the lease. He moved out and went to the leasing company and had them remove his name from the lease, leaving me with the full payments. Can they do this without me signing anything or having him give 30/60 days notice? I am waiting for them to send me a copy of the lease. Thanks.

- Well clearly it would break the lease in my opinion. So technically you should be able to walk away. Or they would need a new lease with you. Basically in my opinion you are living a place that you dont have a lease on. The lease could state that if one moves out the other is required the entire amount. If that is in there, then you are required to pay the entire amount. It could be like a mortgage, you have a borrower and co-borrower and say you are married and get divorced. And the court says the wife gets the house. If the wife doesnt make the payements the lender will go after the husband. Depending on their wording they could easily release him from the contract and not affect your contract. But they have to have the wording in there. Otherwise I would say they broke the lease. All this does for you is let you move out. But if thats not your intent, you will probably have to keep paying. Good Luck
