Can the apartment leasing office refuse to give me the new rate that is lower and offered to others?

It's time for us to renew our apartment leasing contract. We know that the current rate offer to others is lower than what's we have been paying. However, the leasing office refuse still wants us to pay the old higher rate. We know that we can just move out but we are curious about why they want to treat us differently. We have been a good tenant with an excellent payment history in the past one year.

  1. They do not have to offer you the lower rate. About your only chance is to tell them you are going to move if they don't give you the lower rate. You might do a little shopping around. You might find a great deal just around the corner and you can use that as leverage. If you absolutely don't want to move, and if they won't come down on the rate, then you're stuck with the current one. Good Luck!
